| Here at PenDachs we feel that any title our dogs earn is an important one and a credit to their worthiness. We compete at AKC, UKC, and IABCA shows with our dogs. While many folks are familiar with AKC shows because they see them televised they are not familiar with UKC or IABCA shows. I wanted to take the time to explain very briefly how these shows are different and why we choose to participate. Unlike AKC shows professional handlers are not allowed to participate in UKC shows unless they own the dog they are showing. No excessive grooming such as coloring in flaws on coats or sprays and dyes are allowed. Each dog is judged against the standard for the breed. A dog is required to have 100 points and 3 majors to become a champion. I honestly prefer the UKC shows of all the venues. The folks participating are friendlier in general and the judges take a bit more time going over the dogs. Currently we have 3 UKC champions in our home. All of the dogs we breed here at PenDachs that are kept as show potential will be shown in UKC conformation. The IABCA shows are very nice as well. They are run very similiar to that of the UKC show with the one main difference being that each judge gives you a written critique of your dog and it's strength and weaknesses. To a breeder this information is very valuable. We have only been to one IABCA show and at that 4 show event we were able to get some nice wins with Fanny and she finished her championship title easily. AKC shows aren't as relaxed as the other two formats and professional handlers are allowed. This makes it much more challenging for a novice handler to finish their own dog but it can be done. Currently we have two AKC champions and 3 AKC ptd. All of our dogs bred here at PenDachs and kept for show potential will be shown in AKC. We feel it's very important to point out that many of the judges who judge for AKC shows also judge for UKC and IABCA shows. If you have never been to these other show venues check them out. You may be surprised how much you enjoy them! |

| The photos above are both of Fanny. These were taken in Oct 2011 at a Dachshund specialty in Virginia where Fanny was winners bitch. She was handled by her wonderful breeder Arvind DeBraganca of Passport Dachshunds in FL. |
